WHO IS TOM GIST?
Raised in Harlem’s own Manhattanville projects in New York City, Tom Gist, like many young black males
from the hood had aspirations of making it to the NBA. However, Hiphop
changed the course of the road he
would soon travel. Gist began penning rhymes at age 13, and soon after realized that music was his calling.
Influenced by the Harlem hustle mentality, Gist, also known as Antman in his neighborhood, discovered
that he could hustle his wordplay with the same tenacity of all of Harlem’s hustlers that came before him.
He partnered with his childhood friend Robert Earl to form Early Lite Entertainment II.
Musically, Gist reflects on his own life experiences and mishaps in a way that is relatable to anyone who
has experienced adversity in their own life. Having a dark side to his lyrics while maintaining a glimpse of
optimistism has become a recurring theme in his music that loyal “Gist Fans” have come to know and love.
By definition the phrase “diamond in the rough” alludes to someone that has hidden yet exceptional
characteristics, and potential to grow. Although Tom Gist is an independent artist with no major label
support, his drive, dedication, and determination might make you believe otherwise.
